How WLM Started
WLM was started by a group of women doctors in the Houston area as a professional organization for all women doctors to include doctors in chiropractic, clinical psychology, dentistry, medicine, optometry, and osteopathic medicine. At a time where women represent 50% of most graduating classes, we are not equally represented by leadership in our own professional organizations.
This posed the question, who or what is representing women doctors? While participating in our professional organizations is important the change needed to truly represent women doctors could be too slow to protect our and our patients best interests. The next question We often did not having the same opportunities, or having greater obstacles to access those opportunities. However, women doctors, have been shown in research to be better at caring for their patients. This organization was founded on the principle of women supporting women in promoting networking, education, leadership, and companionship.
Member benefits Networking: You are connected to a larger group banded together to produce positive results for public health in our region. Regular Events: Conferences can provide quality education and networking for female doctors. Advocacy: For female medical practitioners. Directory: The association keeps members in touch with each other and current issues through the association’s web site and email updates of emerging issues relevant to public health.
